What you will do
As a Global Trading commercial graduate you will be furnished with a real job from day one, gaining hands on experience, to help cultivate foundational trading skills to establish your own career path.
Areas to apply:
Your first role will be determinded by which team you apply to: –
- Trading Analytics – Performing fundamental market analysis for your commodity that includes using proprietary and third-party data in order to develop actionable market insights of where you see the market evolving and the opportunities for physical and derivative market positions to support commercial decision making by our trading teams. You will be given the opportunity to develop analytical market views to support trading decisions, researching and highlighting key market events and monitoring how they affect sentiment.
- Quantitative Analytics – Conducts quantitative analysis of structured deals to support market-based asset valuations and design hedging strategies; leverages understanding of market fundamentals, dynamics and instruments available to develop and recommend profitable trading strategies.
- Trading Risk & Compliance – Supports Trading in the areas of Exchange Administration, Regulatory and Compliance, Risk Control, Valuations, Risk Reporting, and Risk Analytics. Graduate hires will work closely with Trading and other functions (e.g. Controllers, IT, financial/executing brokers, etc.) to ensure Trading PnL, exposures, mark-to-market accounting, limit monitoring and permissions process are accurate and delivered in a timely fashion.
- Trader Development Program (TDP) – Our Trader Development Program (TDP) is a fast paced, competitive program that will enable you to develop the competencies and skills required to become a successful energy trader at ExxonMobil. You will complete multiple trading role rotations to gain crucial experience in operations, risk and analytics. Throughout your time on the TDP you will receive formal training as well as mentoring and feedback from Senior Traders to further your development. All of this will lead to a formal end of Program assessment. If successful, you will be ready to commence your career as a trader enjoying roles with increasing complexity, responsibility and market exposure.

About You
To be eligible for this role, you must:
- Have at least a 2:1 degree in any subject
- N.B. For Quantitative Analytics a minimum of a MSc or PhD in a quantitative subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Finance, Computation, and Engineering
- Be graduating in 2025 or have graduated in the last 3 years (2024-2022)
- Be able to demonstrate:
- A strong attention to detail
- Analytical, numerical and problem solving skills
- An interest in financial markets
- The ability to communicate, collaborate and work effectively with an international team environment
- Leadership capabilities
Relevant work experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

We are now recruiting for our 2025 Industrial Placement Programme and we are looking for people who can think analytically, enjoy innovating and want to apply their skills to solve real challenges in a trading environment. If this sounds like you, please apply to join us!
While on placement with ExxonMobil you will have support and guidance from managers, supervisors and recent graduates to enable you to apply your degree knowledge and fulfil your potential, gaining confidence and experience as an individual, and learning new skills in a real trading environment.
What you will do
You could find yourself, for example in the Trading Analytics team, performing market analysis for a commodity that includes using proprietary and third-party data to support trading decisions. Or you could find yourself supporting trading teams in the areas of risk management or crude oil optimisation.
Whichever team you are in, you’ll have real responsibility from day one and we’ll provide a supportive, exciting, learning environment, where you can develop a solid foundation of professional skills.
The first month of your placement will set you up for success with a comprehensive induction. You’ll have the chance to experience working in a large scale global trading organisation first hand to grow foundational trading skills and experience.
As your placement progresses you’ll have opportunity to seek out and take on special projects that advance both the business and your personal development.

What role you will play in our team
We are now recruiting for our 2025 Summer Placement Programme. We are looking for people who can think analytically, enjoy innovating and want to apply their skills to solve real challenges in a trading environment. You will spend 8 weeks with our global Quantitative Analytics team in our Global Trading organization, commencing in July 2025. This team’s general responsibility is working day-to-day with traders, analysts, origination and business-development teams across global business lines to support trading, commercial, and project activities and studies. As part of our Summer Placement Programme, you will be mentored by Senior Front-Office Quants and work very closely with our trading teams on our trade floor.

What you will do
You will apply your skills to accomplish the following:
- Develop a basic understanding of the energy commodity market
- Conduct in-depth analysis of quantitative models and back test the performance
- Support market-based valuations of physical assets and structured deals

About You
- Be in the penultimate or final year of your Masters or PhD studies in Mathematical Finance, Computational Finance, Financial Engineering, or similar subject
- Have an understanding of option theory, particularly stochastic calculus and option Greeks
- Be familiar with financial engineering techniques, such as Monte Carlo simulation and dynamic programming
- Be fluent in a programming language such as Python or Excel-VBA
- Be seeking to gain work experience on an 8 week paid Summer Placement, commencing in July 2025
- Be able to demonstrate:
- Outstanding analytical, numerical and problem solving skills
- A strong attention to detail
- An interest in commodity and financial markets
- The ability to communicate, collaborate and work effectively with in an international team environment
